Pittsburgh Poetry Exchange Celebrates 50th Anniversary on May 18th with Readings, Awards, and New Anthology
Pittsburgh Poetry Exchange (PPE), the oldest poetry workshop in Pittsburgh, will hold its 50th anniversary celebration at South Side Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 7 to 10 p.m.
The event will feature readings by present and past members—some returning from all over the world—plus a proclamation by Pittsburgh City Council declaring “Pittsburgh Poetry Exchange Day.” A new anthology of poetry, 50: Pittsburgh Poetry Exchange 1974 – 2024, will also be unveiled and available for purchase, as well as T-shirts, and books by member poets. Food and beverages will be provided.
Michael Wurster, a founding member of PPE and its current leader, will speak and offer a reading of his work, as will many former workshop members, who may share poems and/or memories.
PPE has brought poetry programs to the local community, schools, and prisons over the years, and has published several books and anthologies. Past members have gone on to earn MFA degrees, become professors, and win literary awards.
Admission to the celebration is $5, and proceeds will be donated to the South Side Presbyterian Church.
