ART+FEMINISM is hosting an inclusive one-day event that brings together diverse communities to create and improve Wikipedia articles related to women in the arts on Saturday, March 5, at the Frick Fine Arts Library.
This all-day event is a unique way to highlight Pittsburgh authors & put those writing and editorial chops to good use!
What is a Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon?
“It’s a chance for us to get together, celebrate the amazing women who have made an impact on the arts and make sure their names go down (with accuracy) in a major resource – which will shape art history reception for generations to come. It’s also a chance to draw diverse audiences: feminists, techies, artists (when does that ever happen?), and anyone who’s curious about going behind the scenes at Wikipedia.” – Alexandra Oliver, co-organizer of Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon and art critic
This casual, drop-in event is meant to be as inclusive as possible. Childcare is available with advance RSVP and there will be refreshments. Please see the website and FAQs for more details.
Why participate?
This is a chance to make sure that writers of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry are represented in the ART + FEMINISM Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon — and by extension, are represented on Wikipedia! Pittsburgh has fostered so many talented female writers who have made an impact on the world — many of whom are well-known, like Rachel Carson.
But there are many more that should be recognized…
ART + FEMINISM and Littsburgh would like your help to make sure more writers are included.
How can you get involved (even if you’ve never edited or created an entry for Wikipedia before)?
• Participate in the event on Saturday, March 5. (Bring a laptop, if you have one. A limited number of computers will be provided).
• Sign up to Volunteer
• Participate remotely, if you can’t attend the event
• On our Facebook post, comment with suggestions for female writers (or artists in general) to be sent along to the Edit-A-Thon, and please tag or forward to anyone you know who may be interested in this event. Tag @Littsburgh and use the #artandfeminism hashtag…
