The writers conference Conversations and Connections: Practical Advice on Writing is coming back to Chatham University in Pittsburgh on October 29, 2022 after a three year layoff due to Covid.
Organized by Barrelhouse magazine, the one-day conference brings together writers, editors, and publishers in a friendly, supportive environment to talk about issues of craft, publishing, and the writing life. The conference is geared toward writers of all genres and experience levels and is known for its welcoming and positive environment.
Featured books include John Vercher’s “After the Lights Go Out,” Cameron Barnett’s “The Drowning Boy’s Guide to Water,” Wendy Wimmer’s “Entry Level,” and Saida Agostini’s “Let the Dead In.” Barnett and Wimmer’s books are published by Pittsburgh-based Autumn House. Registration for the conference is $70 and includes your selection of one of these featured books, as well as a literary magazine subscription, a ten minute one-on-one workshop with an editor, and the full conference, which includes three sessions of panel discussions and craft workshops, as well as a reading and audience question/answer session with the featured authors.
Participating literary magazines and small presses include Autumn House, Barrelhouse, Creative Nonfiction, Gettysburg Review, Hobart/HAD, Kenyon Review, Mason Jar Press, Santa Fe Writers Project, and others. All proceeds go to support Barrelhouse and the participating small presses and literary magazines.
