Everyone has been talking about and awaiting the first ever Greater Pittsburgh Festival of Books scheduled for May 14, 2022, in East Liberty. In advance, the community is invited to a kickoff event, “A Taste of the Festival” to be held on March 5, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, 271 Paulson Avenue in East Liberty. Parking available at church.
“A Taste of the Festival” will feature glimpses of and info about the Greater Pittsburgh Festival of Books.
D.S. Kinsel, artist, art educator and co-founder of BOOM Concepts will talk about Black Power Storyime.
Allegheny County Youth Poet Laureate Danielle Obisie-Orlu will read her poetry. She was born in Maryland to Nigerian parents, grew up in South Africa and is a junior at Pitt.
Brian Butko, Director of Publications at the Heinz History Center will discuss his latest book, “Isaly’s Chipped Ham, Klondikes, and Other Tales from Behind the Counter.”)
“This event is one of a series of pop-up events leading up to the Festival. We are thrilled to partner with Mt. Ararat so together we can work to broaden our community of literacy,” says Marshall Cohen, Founder and Co-Chair of the Greater Pittsburgh Festival of Books.
Laurie Moser, co-chair of the Festival says, “Hey Pittsburgh, come turn the page on May 14 and celebrate the joys of reading in six venues in East Liberty. In the meantime, ‘A Taste of the Festival’ on March 5th will give everyone an opportunity to see what a book festival is all about.”
