Press Release: In desperate times, determination and courage are necessary, but they lead nowhere without hope. Science fiction shines a light on the future, helping show humanity where to go. The If This Goes On (Don’t Panic) podcast focuses on genre related topics that guide us forward, talking to writers, politicians, activists, gamers, and scientists about the world around us and the fiction it’s produced.
Alan Bailey of Alan & Jeremy Versus SF, writer/editor Cat Rambo, Twitch streamer Rachel Renee of the Gametographers, and writer/editor Diane Morrison (Sable Aradia) team up for a hopepunk podcast. The first episode, featuring author Alexandra Rowland, creator of the term hopepunk, appeared March 9th. Upcoming guests include writer Tobius Buckell, the masterminds behind Dreamforge Magazine, Scot and Jane Noel, and gametographer and social activist Lem Fillya.
Alan Bailey is most notable for creating, editing, and cohosting, Alan & Jeremy VS Science Fiction. He has been an educator for most of his life, starting in the Pittsburgh Public Schools and moving on to write curriculum for tech and insurance companies, post-secondary schools, and grocery chains. He is currently the bassist for garage prog band Father Flamethrower.
Nebula and World Fantasy Award-nominated Cat Rambo is the author of over 200 short stories and four novels as well as the editor of anthologies Women Destroy Fantasy and If This Goes On (Parvus Press). She runs the online writing school, The Rambo Academy for Wayward Writers.
Diane Morrison, also known as @SableAradia, is a short & long-form science fiction & fantasy writer. She’s also a podcaster, a musician, an activist, and a proud nerd who has spent many years immersed in nerdy subcultures. She’s the manager for the official SFWA YouTube channel and host of The Panel and SpecWomenChat. Recently she’s discovered WorldAnvil and is quietly crawling up her own navel, creating the worlds that her reviews say she’s great at building.
Rachel Spencer is a community organizer and team leader for the Gametographers, as
well as a screenwriter and podcast editor. In 2017 her photography was featured at the first Virtual Photography exhibition at PAXAU. She has placed in multiple virtual photography competitions and has been featured in articles throughout the gaming community. Currently she is developing her first series script, Orion.
Rambo says, “Writing has always and will always be a political act, particularly in the face of a world where we need stories to help us understand the conflict and chaos around us. I’m hoping the podcast will help its listeners find and celebrate those stories.”
