Happy Holidays to all yinz, and welcome to the 12 Days of Indies! My name is Joy Givens, and I’m here to make your December merry and bright by highlighting one of Pittsburgh’s fabulous independent bookstores each day, December 1-12. Keep reading to learn all about today’s featured bookstore, and check back daily for new store profiles, fun tidbits, ordering information, and more!
Day 11
On the eleventh day of indies, I invite you to linger in the beloved Pittsburgh neighborhood of Squirrel Hill a little longer. Stroll down Forbes Avenue and stop when you reach the cheerful turquoise awning outside our latest featured bookstore: Classic Lines! Then, after you make sure your mask is adjusted properly over your face, head inside to peruse this community gathering place’s many literary offerings.
This 1,600-square-foot store has been around for six years, and it’s quickly turned into a staple spot for the neighbors of Squirrel Hill and beyond. Prior to the pandemic, Classic Lines hosted poetry readings, children’s storytime events, and launch events for popular local authors like speculative fiction writer Joshua David Bellin. The store stocks a wide variety of genres and categories, as well as puzzles, stationery, and other gifts.
When it comes to ordering from a distance, Classic Lines is kicking it old-school with online orders: just email them to arrange the purchases of your choice! Many of the staff’s favorites are highlighted on the Classic Lines Facebook page, giving you a heads-up of what’s in store.
If you’ve been missing the community and camaraderie of a truly local bookstore where (to borrow a classic line) “everybody knows your name,” then check out Classic Lines as soon as you can!
