For those of you who aren’t signed up for The Greater Pittsburgh Festival of Books‘ newsletter: the festival has run into some unexpected funding issues this year.
Book Festival The below is an excerpt from the newsletter, with information about donation, sponsorship, and volunteering opportunities.
We’re so happy to have this book festival in Pittsburgh, and we hope we can help it grow (and keep it going) for a long time to come!
“We need your help! The Greater Pittsburgh Festival of Books is in need of funding to continue sharing our region’s literary offerings with the community.
We just learned that a new Pennsylvania arts funding program, which we were counting on for support, issued guidelines that prohibit the GPFB from applying for a grant from those funds because we work through our great Fiscal Program Sponsor, New Sun Rising. Despite our best attempts, the PA Department of Economic and Community Development and the Commonwealth Financing Authority refuse to revise their guidelines to enable us to apply.
So, we must ask for your help. Our projections currently show we could be as much as
$50-75,000 short for the budget right now. As we are ramping up our planning come January, with many new developments shown below, we urgently need to find new resources.
We are determined to make the second annual festival even bigger and better, and kindly ask you to join in our mission!
And the show can only go on with the help of our wonderful volunteers! We are actively seeking volunteers for our 2023 festival.
Join the GPFB network today!
We sincerely thank you for your support! The Greater Pittsburgh Festival of Books could not take place without our partners, sponsors, and all of you.”
