PITTSBURGH (November 9, 2023) — The Greater Pittsburgh Festival of Books will be back for its third annual event on May 11. The Festival will once again take place on the campus of the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in East Liberty for the second consecutive year and Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will serve as Organizing Partner.
The free Festival welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds to explore the city’s literary treasures through national and locally renowned authors and poets; children’s activities; local bookstores and publishers; live entertainment and more.
What started as a dream for Festival founder Marshall Cohen in pre-pandemic days turned into a must-attend event for book lovers of all ages. In its second year, the Festival hosted over 70 adult and children’s authors and brought in over 2,000 registrants, including 500 children’s activity attendees. Additionally, the Festival supported four local bookstores and over 40 exhibitors and publishers. With Cohen’s plans to take a step back from his leadership role with the Festival, Pittsburgh’s largest library system and 2023 Festival sponsor, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, will be taking the reins of the 2024 event and is looking to elevate it to new heights.
“Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is grateful for the solid foundation laid by Marshall and dedicated members of the local literary community for making this event an integral part of Pittsburgh’s literary story,” said Andrew Medlar, President and Director of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. “Building on this momentum, we are delighted to grow the Festival into an even bigger event this year and look forward to creating memories for readers of all ages at this event.”
