We just found out about Scribble House (“our mission is to provide a space where Pittsburgh’s writers and artists can gather, create, learn, and perform”) and thought their Workshop Matchmaking event on October 16th sounded so cool that we asked for a little more information for Littsburgh’s readers.
Workshop Matchmaking We get a lot of emails from writers looking for writing groups and workshops – and it can be really hard to find the right fit when it comes to a writing group… so we think this event could be really useful to a lot of writers out there!
“Finding a workshop group, writing partner, or beta reader has always been a challenge, and it’s gotten even trickier for many over the past few years. That’s why a local writing group organized a new event: Workshop Matchmaking, where participants will workshop each other’s writing and meet people to exchange feedback with in the future.
Workshop Matchmaking will take place Sunday, October 16th from 2:30-5pm at Assemble on Penn Avenue. It is open to writers of all experience levels and genres, including poets, fiction writers, creative non-fiction writers, and those working in hybrid or experimental forms.
This event is organized by Scribble House, a new organization that aims to help local writers and artists make connections and hone their craft. Scribble House’s ultimate goal is to open a work and events space for Pittsburgh’s creative community, and plans to organize events around the city to support this mission while building toward this physical space.
Workshop Matchmaking is the first of these events, and is a topic near-and-dear to Scribble House co-founders Liz Abeling and Jess Simms. As Liz says, ‘We’ve been lucky enough to have a writing workshop for the last forever, and it’s been a gift both to our craft and to our psyche.’ But, Jess adds, ‘It was complete random chance I found this group—I happened to see a friend out at a bar who knew these other folks working on novels, and we clicked. But a lot of people have lost touch with their usual connections and hangouts, and now those kinds of chance encounters aren’t as likely.’ Liz and Jess hope this event can jumpstart some new connections for area writers eager for creative community.
Participants can register online through October 9th. You can find the registration form and more details about the event at ScribbleHousePGH.com/events.”
