This just in from Write Pittsburgh!
For the first time, Write Pittsburgh is offering a series of FREE virtual summer camps for young writers! These camps are more than writing workshops on Zoom; we’re combining art, tech, and writing to produce a youth-generated “time capsule,” a documentation of life during the pandemic.
Young people between 12 and 18 can participate in two-week sessions, each focusing on a specific medium or genre. Campers will meet with instructors three times per week on Zoom, and in-between they can communicate with instructors – and each other – in a digital studio space.
Write Pittsburgh’s summer camp is an intentional virtual environment where campers can build community, process current events, and make their voices heard. Space is limited, and registration is now open for our first two sessions:
June 8-19: Word on the Street – in this session, we’ll be using the sights and sounds around us to document our lives in this strange time. We’ll try out photojournalism, and we’ll interview the people close to us to produce videos, recordings, or feature articles.
June 22-July 3: Virtual Collage – In this session, we’ll use poetry, photography, and digital art to create collages, transforming our experiences into multimedia masterpieces!
We have designed this camp to mirror our on-the-ground dedication to social, emotional, and mental health learning, resilience-informed education, and youth agency. More summer camps coming soon. Please contact us with any questions at: info@writepittsburgh.com and registration can be found at www.writepittsburgh.com.
